PPS District Entrance Requirements
In order to be eligible for Kindergarten in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, children living in the City of Pittsburgh or Mt. Oliver must be five (5) years old no later than September 1.

State law requires proper documentation for those entering the public school system for the first time (any grade).

What Will You Need:
• Evidence of the child's date of birth (birth or baptismal certificate)
• Immunization records (with dates)
• Proof of residence (driver's license, utility bill, tax statement, evidence of receiving checks from public assistance or social security)

Immunization Requirements:
Under current regulations, all children in first, second, third, fourth and fifth grades or attending the Pittsburgh Public Schools for the first time are required to provide proof of having received the following immunizations:
• 3 doses of Hepatitis B
• 4 doses of DTP, TD, DT Vaccine, one dose to be given on or after the fourth birthday, for protection against tetanus (lockjaw) and diphtheria
• 3 doses of Oral Polio Vaccine or if prescribed by a physician, 4 doses of Salk (injectable) Polio Vaccine (students 18 and older exempt)

Students in all grades are required to have:
• 2 properly spaced doses of Measles/Mumps/Rubella Vaccine (MMR), the first dose to be given after 12 months of age

New immunization requirements for new school enterers (Kindergarten or grade 1) and students entering seventh grade:
• Varicella (chickenpox) immunity (either from vaccination or history of disease)
• 3 doses of Hepatitis B

Proof of immunization must be provided by any written record showing immunization dates. If immunization is against religious, moral or ethical beliefs, the parent must provide a signed document stating the reason. If immunization is not medically advisable, a physician (M.D. or D.O.) must provide a medical exemption statement.
